Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas was established in 1925 and was the second high school in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. There were only 1,400 students registered in its initial year of operation. The Bison was chosen as a mascot since the student body literally had to cross open countryside in order to come to the new school. They compared themselves to the American Bison pioneering the Western frontier of the barren plains.

This fall the school will begin it's 90th year.  The City Council

has approved a landmark designation for the school.
